While residents of neighboring communities have been suffering water woes since this past week, the Village of Lake Zurich's water supply has remained safe and available throughout the summer's drought conditions.
Lake Zurich uses a multi-well system with ample supply and backup to feed water into 113 miles of underground pipes to over 6,700 customers in the community.
Lake Zurich has been reinvesting specifically in water and sewer infrastructure for the past 7+ years to maintain the system as a whole. It is a short-term inconvenience to residents when streets and parkways are dug up to replace pipes that nobody sees, but it is absolutely necessary to provide these basis services to our households.
Lake Michigan Water Considerations
With an eye on the future of a sustainable water supply for the long term, the Village Board has expressed intent to become a member of the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) for a connection to Lake Michigan water. Engineering and design of the new connection and engineering updates to the existing system are underway with competitive bids expected in 2024-25 and construction commencing in 2026.
