Summary of Procedures

The State of Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requires all municipalities within the State to be open and accessible.  FOIA establishes the rights of the public to inspect a wide range of public documents.  In order to comply with FOIA, the Village of Lake Zurich adopted Ordinance 2009-12-688.

Records maintained by the Lake Zurich Police Department

The Lake Zurich Police Department Application for Authority to Dispose of Local Records, provided by the Local Records Unit of the Illinois State Archives compliant with the Local Records Act (50 ILCS 205), is available for inspection and copying upon request. This application includes the types of public records which the Department maintains along with their retention schedules. This Records Retention Schedule does not relieve local governments of retention requirements mandated by other state and federal statutes and/or regulations. When such obligation does exist, then the longer retention period takes precedence.
