Telecommunications Tax

The State of Illinois has collected the 6% telecommunications tax on behalf of all municipalities since January 2003.

The telecommunications tax is assessed to land line phone calls and has been a declining source of revenue for municipalities the past several years due to consumers abandoning land lines in favor of cellular service.

The total revenue projected from this source is $438,000 in fiscal year 2021 (January 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021).
