The week of October 6 - 12, 2019 is Fire Prevention Week, a time when residents should plan and practice a home fire escape plan and teach children how to call 911 in case of an emergency. Proclamation.

June 2019 ~ National Gun Violence Awareness Day

100 Americans die from gun violence each day and on average there are about 13,000 gun=related homicides each year.  Mayor Poynton declares June 7, 2019 to be National Gun Violence Awareness Day in the Village of Lake Zurich and encourages all citizens to support efforts to prevent gun violence.  Proclamation.

June 2019 ~ Tunnel to Towers Day

The Stephen Siller Foundation was created by the family of FDNY Fighterfighter Stephen Siller, who lost his life in Manhattan during the 9/11 attacks. Lake Zurich hosts the annual Tunnel to Towers event at Paulus Park as an opportunity to bring our community together to honor first responders and military service members.  Proclamation.

On December 3, 2018, the State of Illinois becomes 200 years old.  It became the 21st State in the union on December 3, 1818.  Proclamation.

National Red Ribbon Week is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of drug use while encouraging all citizens to take an active role in their community drug prevention activities.  Proclamation.

September 2018 ~ Rail Safety Week ~ proclaimed 9/17/2018
Illinois is ranked 2nd in the nation in grade cross fatalities and 5th in the nation in trespass fatalities.  September 23-29, 2018 is rail safety week in Illinois.  Proclamation

It has been 231 years since the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention in 1787.  The week of September 17, 2018 is proclaimed as Constitution Week.  Proclamation.

January 2018 - Poverty Awareness Day in Lake County Suburbs ~ proclaimed 12/23/2018
Lake Zurich supports The Lake County Community Foundation's mission to improve the quality of life of the 25,000 Lake County residents who live in extreme poverty and the 56,000 Lake County residents who are food insecure.  Proclamation here.

December 2017 - Impaired Driving Prevention Month - proclaimed 12/4/2017
December is recognized as impaired driving prevention month. Preventing impaired driving is important to help protect the health of pedestrians and other drivers and reduce the number of vehicle related fatalities. Proclamation here.

Federal budget cuts have proposed to eliminate funding for the US Forestry Community Forestry Program which provides essential grants and funding to State and Local Governments to assist with tree planting and environmental efforts. more
