Dick Schick's Annual Fishing Derby

Dick Schick’s 31TH Annual Lake Zurich Fishing Derby AGES: 16 YEARS AND UNDER

Welcome to the 31th Annual Dick Schick Fishing Derby. This fishing derby is in celebration and honor of, Lake Zurich resident and former community teacher, Dick Schick who ran this free community event for 25 years. 

All participants must register on the day of the event before starting to fish (registration is free and is located under Shelter A). Fishing shall not begin before 9 am to be eligible for prizes, fish must be registered by 11:29 am Participants may fish from the shore of Paulus Park, or from boats or other shoreline areas. 

There are five categories of fish: 

  • Bass 
  • Muskie
  • Northern 
  • Panfish (crappie, blue gill, and perch) 
  • Walley

Fish sizes will be determined by length. In the event of a tie, the weight will be used to determine the winner. 

Remember CPR: Catch, Picture, & Release! We encourage you to practice catch and release. Fish returned to the lake in good condition will receive the following bonus lengths: 

  • Panfish = +1/2 inch 
  • Bass, Northern, Muskie, Walleye = +1/2 inch

Participants must bring your own fishing pole and bait.

New for this Year's Tournament

Three (3) tagged Largemouth Bass will be worth a $50 Bass Pro Gift Card in Lake Zurich. Catch one of these tagged bass, take a picture of the tag & fish then go to https://fishtagger.com/ and enter the tag number and a representative from Lake Zurich Lake Property Owner's Association (LPOA) will be contacted to confirm the catch. Take pictures and release the bass. 

Carp Population Management

Help the LPOA manage the carp population by NOT returning any carp that are caught.
