Comprehensive Plan

Downtown Lake ZurichIn June of 2001, the Village hired Rolf C. Campbell and Associates along with S.B. Friedman and Co. and the Lannert Group to assist the Village with revising its 1989 Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The primary goal of this update was to develop a unified vision among the Village Board, Plan Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for the future growth and development of the Village.

In preparing the update, the planning consultants worked closely with the Village staff as well as a steering committee that included members from various boards and commissions, and collected all necessary and relevant information.

Strategy Planning Associates assisted the planning consultants in identifying resident preferences and desires for the Village in general, and specifically for the downtown area, by interviewing 100 randomly selected residents. The planning consultants also conducted six sub-area tours culminating in focus group meetings with representatives of the steering committee leading the sub-area tours. On November 20, 2002, the Village Board adopted the plan.

A priority of the 2013-18 Strategic Plan includes development of a new comprehensive plan.
